Jacqueline Kankam-Hoppe, an apprentice at Karine Jackson Sustainable Hair & Beauty, has won Concept Hair’s Learner of the Month.

The Learner of the Month Award celebrates students and apprentices who exemplify their passion and drive to improve the future of the hairdressing industry. This award recognises individual efforts in learning the trade. Jacqueline has been recognised this month for her dedication to the learning process of hairdressing, alongside her passion to succeed. Karine says:

The moment Jacqueline joined our team, she’s been an inspiration, leading the way with Black History Month in the salon, coming to me with strong ideas about her hair, about the history of black hair and it’s been amazing to see. She is such a hard worker with the motivation to do well. Whenever there is an out of salon event, she is the first to volunteer to assist and trains hard to better her skill set. Jacqueline is truly one to watch in the industry.

On discovering her well-earned win, Jacqueline was thrilled, saying:

I was tagged by Concept Hair’s social page with them congratulating me on my win. I was extremely excited and couldn’t wait to tell my team at Karine Jackson and my parents who were so proud. It really made my night!

Jacqueline believes listening is a vital skill when training to be a qualified hairdresser, enabling her to pick up skills quickly and apply them to her work. Her future ambitions include session work and stage appearances to educate others, with a dream of hers being to enter further competitions. Karine Jackson’s West London salon is renowned for organic colouring and hairdressing and going single use plastic-free, and was the first in London to be Certified Sustainable.

Former London Hairdresser of the Year, Karine holds the prestigious L’Oreal Colour Specialist Degree, putting her in the top 1% of L’Oreal Colourists in the UK, but now specialises in ammonia-free organic colouring, which she is hugely passionate about. Her clients include actresses Anya Taylor-Joy, Rachel McDowall (Mamma Mia, The Producers), Shelley Conn (Mistresses, Marchlands, Terra Nova), and Neve Campbell, as well as BBC One Show presenter and renowned eco journalist, Lucy Siegle, and presenters Sam Mann, Katy Hill and Margherita Taylor.
